CO-FOUNDER
Payam Kurdistani
Payam Kurdistani is a Kurdish director and screenwriter from Eastern Kurdistan. After attending filmmaking courses in Hozey Honary (A state-run cinema school) and Iranian Young Cinema Association, he set out his amateur filmmaking activities around the turn of the century by making short films. He is currently a PhD student of Art in Art University of Tehran. Studying in Iran’s most prestigious university of art and the inspirational atmosphere of this university altered his approach to filmmaking and offered him a fresh outlook to this field of art. His style of storytelling is dominantly shaped by fantasy and surrealism. He is a formalist in his artistic approach and contends that we get enough of the real world in our limited life experiences and therefore considers Cinema as a medium through which one could create an alternative world and the experiences associated with it rather than reconstruct the reality. In doing so, he is trying to highlight modern day issues in a form and style which is not necessarily compatible with the reality of the world surrounding us.
